Hello there!
As you’ve been kind enough to visit I’ll give you a wee bit about myself so you can plan for a cosy coffee and chat when you see me.
I’m a well-travelled, scientifically minded artist. I believe we all have creativity and even better, we have in infinite amount of it. In fact the more we share our own light, the more ideas will spark. Evolution isn’t just for the scientists!
I’m originally from Belfast in Northern Ireland and after living in a few places throughout England, I settled into a career lifestyle in London. I obviously adored the access to all types of arts but fifteen years on and I’ve decided that nature and community are what feeds my soul. Instead of spending weekends driving to walk and climb outdoors, I decided to move out of the city and now live in the wonderfully picturesque Kinsale, Ireland. Here I plan to soak in the beauty, kayak in the rain, figure out how not to kill plants when I garden and build a studio where my art also has room to grow.
My inspiration often comes from personal travels or other people. I enjoy puzzling on things such as how someone’s good ideas can be made visual or lovely memories made tactile.
To batik is to ‘paint with light’. A focus on highlights is a lovely way to start anything and the same is true in this wax-resist textile technique. The fluid nature of liquid wax and dye is also great for meditative ‘flow’, except when I drop it on the floor or put the paintbrush in my coffee cup!
My most recent passions were gifted to me by art teachers at the London Art Academy. Etching and Cyanotypes are lovely techniques which have stood the test of time. I’m hoping my shed will stand the test of me working out how to get the correct chemicals working to make something beautiful rather than explosive. I’m thrilled to work with these classic creative methods and look forward to developing my own style with upcoming compositions produced here in Ireland.
